This young man is a doctor – one of a group of three recently qualified doctors who came for a week from Freetown. This visit was organised by Dr Michael Pieh, who was born in Taiama but lives now in America. His father was the Methodist pastor in Taiama. Once a year he brings a number of doctors to use their medical skills, and to bring medicines such as iron tablets and painkillers. The group consists of both Sierra Leonian and other doctors from America and Freetown.
The nearest hospital is in Bo, over thirty miles away.
