When people come together , amazing things happen!

The charity, Clean Conscience, has worked with the Kori Project before, by donating hard soap made into noodles that the ladies then form into new bars of soap to sell. Originally this comes from half used toiletries donated by hotels, which are then repurposed by Clean Conscience.

Re-purposing, new from old.

Now one hotel has donated more than 230 small black trays. These are being magically transformed into chalk boards for the children to write on. This involves sanding them, then painting the underside with blackboard paint – fortunately during the fine weather. This detailed and painstaking work has been done by Kris, who helps at Clean Conscience.

Where they will be used

In addition, 1500 pieces of chalk are going – and 150 board cleaners- brilliantly produced from torn up towels. The boards will be safely packaged for their journey to the schools where they are really needed.- especially in the very small villages with no school equipment at all. Some will go to the Sandy Raffan Library, for the younger visitors, as well as bigger schools like Gbunhehun school, which has 200 pupils, many of whom cannot read yet.

The blackboard project shows how we try to reuse things as much as possible, from the original trays, to the cleaners made from towels.

In our next post, find out how these little blackboards cross the world to reach the children of the Kori District of Sierra Leone
