Fantastic Progress at the Bob Simson School!

2020 has been a difficult year for the whole world.  The global pandemic has resulted in many deaths, and has led to lockdowns in a lot of countries to try to reduce the number of COVID cases.

In Sierra Leone, the people have had to contend with not only the pandemic and lockdown, but also the usual rainy season.  It is a real credit to the determination of the people of Kori that we have big progress to report! The Bob Simson School now has a roof.  It also has window frames, and some good strong steel doors.  The deep veranda is finished and will give essential protection from the hot sun, as well as keeping the students dry as they move between classrooms during the long rainy season.

We need your help…

To be able to register the school with the Education Ministry, the school must have latrines for boys and girls, as well as a borehole and pump to supply clean water.  Registration by the government means they will pay the teachers and the exam system can take place. The cost to do this will be £11,000, but the good news is that we already have pledges of £6,000 so we just need to raise £5,000 to have the school ready for registration.

Those of us who live in developed countries, where clean water is available just by turning a tap, can sometimes forgot how lucky we are.  We can easily follow the medical guidance about handwashing, to help reduce the chance of spreading diseases such as COVID.  In Sierra Leone it is much more difficult, so providing these latrines and clean water will make a vital difference in the lives of the children and their teachers and families.

Every parent around the world wants the best for their children – health, education, and access to clean water. By supporting the Bob Simson School, we can help some Kori area parents to provide these basic rights to their children.
